Issues couples disagree on the most

On Behalf of | Jul 31, 2020 | Divorce

Many divorce cases start with disagreements. Two people see things in very different ways, and they eventually have to address those issues. As they dig into it, they realize that an issue is important to both of them and that they are not willing to change their views or compromise. If it proves to be a fundamental issue, and if the friction it causes is too great, it can end the relationship.

What types of issues lead to these disagreements most often? Perhaps the most common is money. A couple may have significant debt that was caused by only one of them, or they may have very different spending and saving habits. Money trouble creates stress. It’s important to note that this can happen at almost any income level.

Another major issue is the lack of trust that can develop in a marriage. It may be that one person is simply unable to trust the other from the outset, or it could be that issues within the marriage — like an affair — eroded that trust. Either way, trust is the foundation of a marriage. Once it is gone, the couple may decide that they simply have no choice but to divorce.

A third common issue is just when people grow apart. It happens, and there’s not always a clear reason. People just change as they get older, and they may no longer feel compatible. This is often true when people get married at a very young age — in their teens — and just naturally have a lot of growing up to do.

If you decide to get divorced for one of these reasons or any other, make sure you’re well aware of your legal options
